Where are you located?
My studio is located in Lafayette, California, in Contra Costa County, but I also shoot on location. I can take portraits anywhere in the Contra Costa Area, and I also shoot quite a bit on my 6-acre horse ranch, and my studio in Lafayette.
What should I wear?
Wear something that reflects the type of look you want to achieve. Keep it simple, solids are usually best. Stripes, plaids, flowery or busy clothes can be distracting in a photograph. Cream is better than white, and avoid wearing all black. Denim photographs great, and warm colors including all shades of brown, all shades of red look really nice.
Light makeup, glossy lips look good, but don’t overdo the makeup or jewelry! Blemishes can be removed in Photoshop, so don’t worry about that. Before your shoot, I’ll go over wardrobe choices with you and give your more tips and examples of colors that look good together.
What is your style?
For portraits, I love candid, lifestyle images that focus on connection and emotion. I usually begin a session with a few posed shots and then the rest of the shoot can be spent laughing running around, snuggling etc. For headshots, I shoot in my studio with my Westcott Flex Kit, and I go for beautiful lighting, which complements all types, and these shots are ready to use for all types of business purposes as well as for social media, and personal branding.
Can I preview images at the shoot?
When we are working in the studio taking headshots I shoot tethered to a laptop, so yes you can view images as we shoot them. This helps you to see what you like about the look and what you might want to change before we finish. When we shoot portraits outside, this isn’t available, but I have a very fast turn around time, and you will get a link to digital proofs within just a few days.
What camera gear do you use?
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III, and I have a 5D as backup. My usual portrait lens is my Canon 70-200 L Mark II series 2.8, and my Canon 24-70L 2.8 and I usually shoot headshots with my Canon 24-105L.
Am I allowed to use the images for social media, album covers, etc.?
YES! After putting so much energy into creating these images together, I hope that you’ll get as much use out of them as possible! Share away! Credit is not necessary but always appreciated 😊
